How can I publish part of my track in advance on TikTok & Instagram?

As the social media platforms TikTok & Facebook/Instagram have become by far the most important tools for promoting one's music, it can be beneficial in some cases to release a snippet (a short excerpt of a song) on these platforms before the official release date in order to generate hype. However, since the full release already has its own set release date, a separate release must be created for the snippet.

Procedure

  1. Cut the track: Cut the most distinctive part of your song in advance using an audio editing program such as Audacity. A maximum of 60 seconds can be delivered to TikTok, so the snippet cannot exceed this length.
Alternatively: If you do not want to cut the track precisely, you can also use the full version and individually set the starting point for the 60-second audio excerpt via the "Tracklist" -> "Start Preview" option.

  2. Create a snippet release: Snippets can only be released by creating a separate release. There is currently no specific "snippet option".

  3. Adjust the title: Add the addition "(Snippet)" in parentheses after the release title and track title so that it can later be distinguished from the main release. If you want to create multiple versions, you could also enter a more specific designation such as "(Hook)" or "(Part 1)", etc.

  4. Choose a date: Choose the desired release date for the snippet, which should of course be before the main release.

  5. Select stores: Select only TikTok Facebook/Instagram (if desired) for the stores. Snippets are not allowed to be released on any other stores.

  6. Complete the release

The snippet release will then be reviewed and delivered within 48 hours (working days).

Notes for TikTok

  1. No automatic linking: If a song is first released as a snippet and later as a full release, TikTok creations cannot be automatically linked, as TikTok only accepts creations based on identical releases. This means that two independent excerpts will be created for the snippet and full version.

  2. Recommendation for releases: It is recommended to keep the snippet release online and choose a different section of the song for the full version. This allows fans on TikTok to experience different parts of your song.
