What is an Artist ID and what is it used for?
An Artist ID is a unique identifier that stores like Spotify or Apple Music use to unambiguously identify an artist. Every Artist ID is unique and permanently assigned to one artist.
You only receive an Artist ID once a release has been delivered to the respective store.
Who receives an Artist ID?
Everyone involved in a release receives an Artist ID – not just artists and features, but also composers, lyricists, producers and other performers.
The Artist ID is used for the stores' internal, correct attribution. Whether it also results in a public Artist Page depends on the role: Artist Pages are generally only created for artists and features (and, for classical releases, possibly also for composers).
Note: If, for example, you list composers or lyricists under their legal names, you need to request a separate Artist ID for each person. The Artist ID of the artist name cannot be reused.
For which stores can I add Artist IDs?
Currently, Artist IDs can only be added for Spotify and Apple Music. This ensures your releases automatically end up on the correct Artist Pages on these two stores.
How do I add my Artist ID?
As soon as you enter an artist for the first time while creating a release, a pop-up opens automatically where you can add the Artist ID. You have three options:
Enter the Artist ID manually – if you already know your Artist ID.
Link an existing artist – search by artist name and select the correct profile from the results (only possible if you have already released music on the stores).
Request a new Artist ID – if this is the artist's first release. The stores will then automatically create a new profile. On Apple Music, the Artist ID is generated immediately and automatically assigned to the artist.
You can also add or correct Artist IDs at any time afterwards via "Artist Hub" -> "Artist Profile".
How is an Artist Page created?
An Artist Page is created automatically once a release is delivered. You simply need to enter the desired artist name when creating the release and select "Request new Artist ID".
After release, you can verify the Artist Page on some stores and get direct access. On Spotify, verification is even possible right after delivery – i.e. before the actual release date.
Where do I find my Spotify Artist ID?
The Spotify Artist ID is the combination of letters and numbers that appears in your Artist Page link after artist/.
Example URL:
https://open.spotify.com/artist/0LI0aRLyS53dpSkNptExdC
Example URI:
spotify:artist:0LI0aRLyS53dpSkNptExdC
-> Spotify Artist ID: 0LI0aRLyS53dpSkNptExdC
On Spotify, the Artist ID is only generated once an artist's first release has been delivered. If you need the Spotify Artist ID before your first release is published – e.g. to verify your Spotify Artist Page in advance – please contact us at [email protected] or via the chat window. We will then send you the ID and add it for the artist. After your first release, you can determine the Artist ID yourself from your Artist Page link.
Where do I find my Apple Music Artist ID?
Your Apple Music Artist ID is the string of digits at the end of your Artist Page link.
Example URL:
https://music.apple.com/de/artist/maria/421387735
-> Apple Music Artist ID: 421387735
On Apple Music, the Artist ID is generated as soon as a new artist is added to a release and is automatically assigned to the artist.
