Yes - Dolby Atmos files can be uploaded directly in the release and published on iTunes/Apple Music.
What is Dolby Atmos?
Dolby Atmos is a revolutionary audio technology that offers an immersive and three-dimensional sound experience. Instead of using only traditional stereo or surround sound channels, Dolby Atmos Music enhances the sound experience through the use of object-based audio. Individual sound objects are placed in the room, giving listeners the feeling of being surrounded by music on all sides.
The advantages for music lovers are manifold. Dolby Atmos makes tracks livelier and more dynamic as artists have greater creative freedom to place and move sounds. This enables a deeper connection to the music and opens up new artistic possibilities.
Good to know:
Apple Music has announced that artists and labels who offer the majority of their music in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos will receive a higher per-stream payment. This decision is intended as an incentive to encourage more artists to offer their music in this immersive audio format. Such releases will also receive increased attention from Apple for editorial placements.
The Dolby Atmos audio files can be uploaded directly in the release via the corresponding field under "Tracklist". The format must be the following:
File type: BWF ADM WAV file
Sample size: 16bit or 24bit
Sample rate: at least 48kHz
Caution:
Specially mastered audio files are required for Dolby Atmos. Apple lists very specific and strict requirements for this. You can find a complete list of Apple's requirements here:
